Around the world, our 130 chapters and special interest groups work locally, regionally, and globally to keep the Internet a force for good: open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy. Each month, we provide a brief overview of just some of the things they have achieved in the previous month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spotlight on Niger Chapter<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\uddf3\ud83c\uddea Niger Chapter<\/strong> announced the successful official launch of Niger’s first Internet Exchange Point (IXP), a milestone achievement for the country’s digital landscape. This initiative, developed in close partnership with the National Agency for the Information Society (ANSI), marks a significant step towards a more resilient and efficient Internet infrastructure for Niger. The chapter has worked tirelessly over the past two years, organizing training sessions to prepare the local stakeholders for this day\u2013congratulations and thank you for your commitment to growing the Internet!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IXPs create shorter routes for Internet traffic, offering a more affordable alternative to sending local Internet traffic abroad. IXPs also help increase Internet resilience and stability. Find out how we support IXP development<\/a> around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other Chapter Activities <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udde7\ud83c\uddee Burundi Chapter’s<\/strong> advocacy and action paid off! Months after the chapter held an awareness campaign and organized a training workshop, DNSSEC<\/a> is now fully deployed and active on the .bi ccTLD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\uddea\ud83c\udde8 Ecuador Chapter<\/strong>, in collaboration with ICANN, held the Technical Workshop on DNS, BGP, and Peering for ISPs<\/em>. The event was organized as part of the ICANN Near You<\/em> initiative, which aims to create global impact through local action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\uddee\ud83c\uddf3 India Bengaluru Chapter<\/strong> hosted the Startup Domain Summit<\/em>, held at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). It brought together a vibrant mix of industry insights, thought-provoking panel discussions and networking opportunities for the startup and domain community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\uddef\ud83c\uddf2 Jamaica Chapter<\/strong> hosted a successful webinar on Global Policy Threats to Encryption<\/em>, featuring Internet Society staff, who shared expertise on the evolving global debate around encryption and its implications for privacy, security, innovation, and the digital economy. Over 81 participants, including practitioners, educators, students, and community members, participated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\uddf2\ud83c\uddfd Mexico Chapter<\/strong> launched a new initiative focused on empowering citizens to detect and prevent online scams and fraud, a challenge that is increasingly present in the digital lives of Mexican society. The chapter works to strengthen people\u2019s capacities by providing practical tools and accessible knowledge that help recognize warning signs, protect personal data, and avoid falling victim to online fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\uddf3\ud83c\uddea Niger Chapter<\/strong> hosted a webinar on Sensitive Data and Application Security<\/em> for developers and IT experts, focusing on crucial topics like storage strategies, transmission protocols, and encryption techniques. The chapter also held a practical training session in Niamey on online Internet tools. This initiative is aimed at empowering 20 women with essential digital skills to enhance their professional and personal opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\uddf3\ud83c\uddec Nigeria Chapter<\/strong> held a member event during the African Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF<\/a>). The event was focused on how to use Internet Society Pulse, Nigeria\u2019s Internet measurement data, and what features the chapter would like to see added to Pulse. The session was led by Internet Society staff with chapter members sharing feedback from group sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\uddf5\ud83c\udde6 Panama Chapter<\/strong> was featured in a local news report following the inauguration of its new board of directors for the 2025-2027 term. During the event, the urgent need to strengthen connectivity as a fundamental human right was emphasized, as well as the need to review public policies and investment aimed at ensuring Internet access in remote areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\uddf5\ud83c\uddfe Paraguay Chapter<\/strong> held an educational event focused on network and mobile device security, aimed at high school students aged 13 and above, as well as parents, to promote best practices for personal online safety. Over 200 people participated, learning first-hand about tools and recommendations to protect themselves in the digital environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
